Not really complaining - just part of the the total unpredictability of a market stall which brings both fun and frustration. I was pleased to be set up beside the gang from Fusion Jewellery who were lovely company!

Around lunchtime (opted for fresh pasta from the fresh pasta man - so good), much to my delight and surprise, things got far busier and I ended up with some great 11th hour sales to round out the day. All in all, by the time I packed up my crates and headed home for a much needed shower (true confession - maybe it's just me but I always smell ever so slightly of sausages after a market day) I was a happy bunny.

Last Saturday of summer (how did that happen?)

Quick note to say that Julianne will be bringing the Knitwear Deli to St George's Market for the last Saturday of the summer, 30th August!
Come visit!

Rain Stopped Play

So, on the day with the worst weather in the history of weather (I may have made this fact up), business was not brisk for the Deli at the Market. Widespread flooding across the country made Saturday a day for sitting inside lamenting, rather than heading out into the deluge. However, rather than being miserable at the lack of trade, Charlotte and I took the opportunity to take some photos of the stall. Here you go.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder

After a long absence on my (Beth's) part, caused by a charity run dressed as John McEnroe, my sister in law to be's hen night, a week in Dingle, and a wee trip to Dublin, I was delighted to be back at the lovely St George's today (and I promise to try and organise my time better). The weather was bonkers, sun splitting the rocks one minute, and monsoon the next. The punters however were not put off and the market was nice and lively, with plenty of people stopping to browse and chat. The music was awesome too. I'm a poor blogger so I didn't catch the guy's name - will find out and let you know! I was accompanied today by Rich, long suffering knitting widower, who did all the heavy lifting, due my bad back (caused by the youngest son being 25 pounds at 11 months - and that's a medical opinion...). So we had a lovely morning, sans sons, drinking coffee and nattering. Happy times.
The cards and tea cosies were the winners of the most popular stuff competition today. My beloved felt bags were much touched and remarked upon, but alas no takers. Maybe next time.
Speaking of, I'm 99% sure I'll be back on 16th August with one of my many little sisters, the ever stylish Charlotte. So come and visit, we'd love to see you.

Today

Today I marketed which was good - continuing to have really good reaction all the fun and colour at the stall and it's nice to see everything laid out and displayed after being all packed up in suitcases and rubber crates for a few weeks. I sold quite a few knit kits for a change - people seemed to be in the mood to learn to knit which was fun. I was also evangelising for Ravelry and Knitty left, right and centre - somehow can't help myself!

There's really no predicting what will sell and if things will be busy or not, but it's always interesting to see how the day unfolds. The only downside really is having to get up at bloody half six on a Saturday morning (double ugh!) I was especially unimpressed as it was absolutely chucking it down (an apt expression in this case!) Thankfully the rain didn't seem to put people off coming down for a nosey and I'd cannily brought a flask of coffee (trying not to spend all the profits at Java Man) so that got me through the first few hours.

In case you're wondering, our next appearance at St George's will be Saturday 26th July.

Radio Stars

We're famous!
The Knitwear Deli had its first bit of publicity on Radio Ulster's Saturday Live. One customer bought 12 in one go, so we need to get busy with the printing and the gluing again! The brooches are still popular, and we've added tea cosies and mug huggers (if intrigued about the latter - come down and see for yourself, they're the perfect wee gift for the tea/coffee fiend in your life).

I had a go at felting a handbag (to felt, you knit with pure wool, and wash the finished article in the washing machine, so it shrinks and thickens). I was on a steep learning curve with the first go, and the resulting article is now a rather fetching knitting needles case (as its too long and too thin to be used as anything else - although a customer commented that it was like Kate Moss' new bag, so I'll need to check that out...). The second go was a big success, but I couldn't bear to part with it, so I knitted a third - which did make it to the stall! Here it is - just about my favourite thing ever!

Nothing more to report...except our first bit of publicity (eeeek). We're gonna be on Radio Ulster this Saturday afternoon - wish us luck!

We'll be back at the market every other week for the next wee while - Saturday 17th and 31st May.

We'd love to see you there!

Happy girls

Greetings after day two at the Deli! Much more chilled out today, feeling like old hands this morning as we got our stall (we were still there half an hour too early, but old habits…). We got a great spot near the pasta guy (any of you familiar with the market will know where that is. Any of you not familiar with the market, why not? Come on down on 26 April and check it out!).

We had a fairly quiet first hour and a half – spent a lot of time reassuring each other that it was okay to have a quiet day – neither of us believed it, but we tried to make it a mantra. Then after 11.30, we were busy busy busy. We have added greeting cards to our repertoire which were very popular – so we both have to get crafty again to replenish the supply! We’ve also added pashminas in a gorgeous spectrum of colours so any of you needing a wrap or a sarong (anyone lucky enough to be going to the beach?), come and have a look.

Again, we had lovely visits from friends and family, and at least one local celebrity who shall remain nameless (although he’s put in an order for a bobble hat so I’ll post a pic if we get him one made). I was delighted to get a visit from Nic, my little sister’s good friend, who I last saw throwing her mortar board into the air when she and Em graduated!

All in all, we had another great day. Much fun, giggles, sausage baps and cookies. What more could you want?

We’ll be back again on Saturday 26th April, and then on Saturday 3rd May. We’d love to see you!

Day One!

Quick report on the first day's trading of the Knitwear Deli. After an early start, a bit of confusion and drama, and a lack of coffee, we got a stall in the perfect spot for us (and got some market knowhow along the way). The morning was busier than we had expected, with lots of browsers, plenty of buyers and lots of family and friends too, which was wonderful.

Thanks for all the support - and for the coffees, juices and snacks too!

We'll be back at the market on 12 April.
